Anaesthesiologist – Sarnen – Switzerland


Sarnen is the capital of the Swiss canton of Obwalden. The city is located approximately 473 meters above sea level and is attractive for various activities during all seasons. During the winter, Sarnen turns into an enchanting winter wonderland. Langis, located north of Sarnen, is a must-visit for cross-country skiers and winter hikers. Although Sarnen is not directly located in a winter sports area, it is located close enough to make access to the mountains very easy. During the summer the city is also very attractive. You can discover the beautiful Swiss landscape during a pleasant boat trip, a breath-taking mountain bike tour or a versatile hike. In addition, the city functions as the perfect location for seminars, group excursions or conferences.

The position is offered by a secondary care hospital in the region. This hospital functions as a teaching hospital for different specialties and for different medical personnel. There are about 500 medical professionals working at this hospital, together they provide a wide range of medical care to the population of Sarnen.


On behalf of this hospital, we are looking for an anaesthesiologist for a full-time position. Good knowledge of the German language (C1 level) is required.

The successful candidate will be involved in often challenging and varied casuistry. You will be involved in the treatment of general and visceral surgery, traumatology, orthopaedics, gynaecology, obstetrics, urology, ENT, neurosurgery and ophthalmology patients. In addition, your skills will be needed in supporting the perioperative pain management service and emergency services in the ER.

For this position we are looking for candidates who have extensive specialist experience in Anaesthesia, including ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia. Candidates must have good social skills and be able to work well within a team. A good knowledge of the German and English language or the willingness to learn this is required. For registration in Switzerland, B2 level is required, although mastery at C1 level is desirable in the clinic.
