Gastroenterologist – Whangarei – New Zealand
Whangarei is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the regional capital of the Northland region. The city has around 55,000 inhabitants and is easily accessible via various motorways, an airport and a train station. Most Maori live in this area of New Zealand. Due to the long presence of the Maori in this region, one can see their long-lasting influence on the country clearly and strongly. The city is located at a natural harbour and is surrounded by beautiful nature. Auckland is only a two-hour drive away.
This hospital is the largest secondary care hospital in the Northland region and has three smaller surrounding peripheral hospitals. The population, spread across an area of 12 600 square kilometres, counts 180 000 people. The medical division that includes gastroenterology has 68 medical beds on three wards, an additional coronary care unit with 5 beds and spacious outpatient services.
The outpatient workload is not only performed at Whangarei, but also at the three rural hospitals easily accessible by good infrastructure. Specifically for endoscopy, there is a range of the latest scopes to perform invasive therapies including variceal banding/sclerotherapy, ulcer injections, stenting/dilatation and polypectomy. ERCP has recently been repatriated from Auckland.
On behalf of the above-mentioned hospital, we are looking for a Gastroenterologist for a full-time position. Specialists and trainees within a few months of completing their registration are welcome to show interest. ERCP experience is desirable, but not essential.
The current team is looking for a team player who is enthusiastic for teaching and committed to consistently improve current services. Next to outpatient sessions, ward supervision, specialty operative sessions including emergency endoscopy, 30% of the activites is comprised of teaching, professional personal development, research and management.
Furthermore, the endoscopic facilities are currently being re-developed and will move to dedicated suites within the next 12 months, which means you will have an important part in developing a sustainable service for bowel disease screening and treatment.
The employer offers attractive employment conditions. For registration, proficiency of the English language is required. MMedical will help you obtain all necessary registrations to apply and start with the position.
