Intervention Radiologist – Wellington– New Zealand

Wellington is the capital of New Zealand and has about 350.000 inhabitants and is located on the North Island. Wellington is considered the political and cultural centre of New Zealand. The population is relatively young and this is reflected in excellent schools, a wide range of cultural events and a large number of coffeeshops and restaurants. The cost of living is low and there are many options for housing.

The position is offered by a major healthcare institution in the region. Centrally located in Wellington, this institution has more than 6.000 full-time employees, making the institution an important employer in the Wellington region. The institution has two hospitals. The facilities provides a range of specialist services including neurosurgery, oncology, neonatal intensive care and community services including community nursing, rehabilitation services, social work, addiction treatment and home support services to a population of approximately 900.000 people. Both secondary and tertiary care is provided.

On behalf of this healthcare institution, we are looking for an interventional radiologist specialized in neurology. Appointment is for a minimum of 1 year.

The hospital’s neurointervention team treats between 60-70 cases with endovascular cerebral aneurysms per year and about 40-50 other neurointervention cases (AVM embolization, treatment of spinal lesions and strokes). Due to the growing demand for specialized centres, specialized intervention radiologists are indispensable. The employer is working on expanding the capacity and treatment options within the intervention laboratories. Once this has been completed, a second angiography room and (at least) one Biplane Angiography Unit will become available. There are opportunities for growth within the team. Thus, the successful candidate is given the opportunity to lead the Intervention Radiology team. In addition, there is an on-call commitment and part of the tasks will consist of guiding and teaching registrars.

Preferably, candidates are sought who possess extensive experience within the field of neuro-interventional radiology. In addition, candidates with a fellowship are also preferred. Candidates should have experience working with neuro-diagnostic imaging such as spectroscopy, DTI and functional imaging techniques.
