Middlesbrough is an industrial city in North East England along the North Sea coast on the Tees River in North Yorkshire. The population of Middlesbrough consists of approximately 142,000 people. The city is situated in an area rich of nature, close to the North Yorkshire Moors and the beautiful coastline. The city has a great range of local amenities and is characterised by highly acclaimed schools. Furthermore, Middlesbrough is easily accessible by a good infrastructure including a train network. The Lake District is less than a two hours’ drive and the international airports of Leeds Bradford and Newcastle can be reached by car within one hour.

The corporation of academic hospitals, one of the largest Foundation Trusts in the UK, offers high quality out- and inpatient care for the large area. Specialist tertiary services are provided to a population of approximately 1.2 million. The major tertiary and teaching centre is connected to the university and has over 1000 beds.
The highly skilled Stroke Service includes a consultant team with three of the five current Stroke physicians having a special interest in Older Persons’ Medicine, two having a special interest in Neurology and four additional Neurologists contributing to the acute stroke on-call rota. Furthermore, the team of consultants, nurses, nurse practitioners, AHPs and admin staff together provide hyperacute, acute and rehab stroke services. These services include daily TIA clinics, ward rounds, hyperacute stroke therapies, early supported discharge and the associated administrative duties. The department also provides acute care for elderly in different specialised settings. There are close ties with neurology, neurosurgery and vascular surgery.

Job Description:

On behalf of the above-mentioned hospital, we are looking for a neurologist for a fulltime position within the Stroke Service. Applicants who wish to apply for a reduced/part time contract are also welcome.
Research and academic activity are actively encouraged. The applicant will provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff and will be actively involved in the management of the department. The applicant will contribute to the on call rota provided by other stroke physicians (thrombolysis and stroke ward cover) and neurologists (thrombolysis cover). There are numerous opportunities and encouragement for career development joining, also during a period where a single Hyper Acute Stroke Unit is being developed for a particular area. This position offers the opportunity to develop special interests, with the option of protected research time.
The employer offers attractive employment conditions. The annual salary will be between £ 76,000 and £ 108,000, depending on your experience and qualifications.
