Psychiatrist – Hutt Valley – New Zealand

Location:

The Hutt Valley is a large area near the Hutt River in the Wellington region. Several cities are located in this region, of which Upper and Lower Hutt are the most important. These cities are both suburbs of Wellington and together with Wellington and Porirua form the Wellington district. The beautiful town of Pirorua is located on the water at the southern tip of the North Island. The city has 55.000 inhabitants and surrounds the entire bay and harbour on the Kapiti Coast. The Hutt Valley is located on the Cook Strait, which is the strait that separates the North Island from the South Island. The region therefore has a mild, almost Mediterranean climate. The beautiful green surroundings are ideal for outdoor sports such as hiking and mountain biking. Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city, is a modern vibrant city that is very high on the list of the best cities in the world to live. Wellington also has an international airport and good infrastructure to other parts of the country.

The position is offered by a regional healthcare organization primarily located in Wellington and employs approximately 6.000 people. The organization has two hospitals to its disposal, one of which is located in Porirua. There is collaboration with the Department of Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability, which provides care at local, regional and national level. The Crisis Team provides assessment and short-term treatment for people who are in a crisis of mental health and those facing urgent safety concerns. This care is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The team, furthermore, functions as a mediator for clients and healthcare professionals of the department of Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability outside office hours. In addition, the employer has an Infant, Child, Adolescent and Family Service Team. This team is specialized in treating children, young people and adolescents suffering from psychiatric disorders.

Function:

On behalf of this hospital, we are immediately looking for a psychiatrist with a specific interest in Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for a full-time position. The appointment is for a minimum of one year.

Your duties will include the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of infants, children and adolescents with serious mental illness and serious psychological conditions. In doing so, you will work with patients, their families and community clinical teams to promote recovery. You will also strengthen multiple multidisciplinary teams, these teams consist of fellow psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, psychotherapists and administrative staff. The successful candidate is responsible for all necessary clinical steps to be taken to help clients achieve optimal health, well-being and safety through appropriate assessment, intervention and education. You will not only be responsible for providing high-quality diagnoses, treatments and follow-up consultations to patients, but will actively contribute to further develop and improve the care provided.
