The Hutt Valley is a large area near the Hutt River in the Wellington region. There are several towns in the Hutt Valley. Of these towns, Upper and Lower Hutt are the most important. These cities are both suburbs of Wellington and together with Wellington and Porirua they form the district of Wellington. The beautiful town of Porirua is located on the water at the southern tip of the North Island. The city has 55.000 inhabitants and surrounds the entire centrally located bay and harbour on the Kapiti Coast. The Hutt Valley is located on the Cook Strait, which is the strait that separates the North Island from the South Island. The region therefore has a mild, almost Mediterranean climate. The beautiful green surroundings are ideal for outdoor sports such as hiking and mountain biking. Wellington, New Zealand’s port city, is not only a modern vibrant city but also a highly rated city to live in. This city also has an international airport and good infrastructure to other parts of the country.

The position is offered by a regional healthcare organization which is mainly located in Wellington and employs approximately 4.300 people. Two hospitals are covered by the organization, one of which is located in Porirua. There is collaboration with the Department of Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Services, which provides care at the local, regional and national levels. The Crisis Team provides for assessment and short-term treatment for people who are in psychiatric crisis and those facing urgent safety concerns 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The team is also the contact point for clients and healthcare professionals of the department of Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability outside office hours.


On behalf of the aforementioned employer, we are immediately looking for a psychiatrist with a special interest in acute adult psychiatry for a full-time position, appointment is for a minimum of 1 year.

Your duties will include the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of adults with serious mental illnesses and serious psychological conditions. In doing so, you will work with patients, their families, and community clinical teams to promote recovery.

Attractive terms of employment are offered. Excellent English language skills are required for registration in New Zealand. MMedical will assist you in obtaining all necessary registrations.
