Even though Switzerland officially does not have a capital, Bern fulfils that role and is therefore referred to as a “federal city”. Bern has around 129.000 inhabitants, making it the fifth largest city in Switzerland. Bern is characterized by its old city centre, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city lies on the river Aare, which surrounds a large part of the city. The temperature during winter is often around freezing and in summer around 20 degrees Celsius.
The position is offered in one of Switzerland’s larger academic centres. This centre is the employer for approximately 8.300 employees and is therefore a major source of income for the region. Here, both secondary and tertiary care is offered to the population. About 44.000 clinical patients are seen annually. This academic centre focuses mainly on an interdisciplinary approach and maintains a high standard of care. Due to the academic nature of this hospital, it is regularly attached to medical research and medical personnel are trained daily.
The Pulmonology Department treats the entire spectrum of its field (both lung diseases and sleep-related respiratory disorders) and has access to modern equipment.
